Rina Sherman - The Ovahimba Years

Rina Sherman

EFFA supports the wonderful project and work of Rina Sherman - The Ovahimba Years

EFFA recommends the works of the ethnographer, filmmaker and photographer Rina SHERMAN who shared the life of an extended OVAHIMBA family during a fieldwork of seven years (1997-2004). The Ovahimba is a community of cattle farmers living on both sides of the Kunene river that forms the border between Namibia and Angola. During a fieldwork of seven years (1997-2004), Rina created in-depth documentation of some aspects of their everyday and ritual lives. The archival collection “The Ovahimba Years -Les années Ovahimba” consisting of several hundred hours of video and sound, thousands of photographs and many notes, have been donated to to the Bibliothèque Nationale de France who will expose them from September 29th to November 15th in Paris (site François-Mitterand – Galerie des Donateurs) Rina wants to publish a book of photographs witnessing of her seven years of life and work with the OVAHIMBA. Publishing a quality photographic book is expensive and needs some contributions. That’s the reason why Rina has initiated a crowdfundng campaign through INDIEGOGO.

We warmly invite you to visit Rina's website or the Facebook Group Page You will discover some nice pictures and the presentation of the project
