Compliance Conference

Compliance Conference

The first Conference fully dedicated to the Compliance was held on June 20th at the EPIC SANA Luanda at the initiative of the Belgian non-profit association "European Foundation for Angolan Promotion & Development" (EFFA) in close collaboration with ABANC, Associaçao Angolano de Bancos and A + AFRICA. To an assembly of more than 120 people gathering bankers and officials, President of EFFA, Mr. Daniel RIBANT, clearly set the stakes of this important issue in our globalized world emphasizing in particular, that if "you do not mind the compliance, compliance will take care of you."
After greeting the happy initiative of EFFA, Deputy Governor of the Banco Nacional de Angola, Dr. Ricardo D’ABREU, confirmed the major importance that the institution now granted to the obligations in matter of compliance and that everything is implementing to ensure that the country has all the necessary legal and regulatory arsenal. In this respect, he stressed the importance of the latter Directive 1/13 of April 19th, specifying that the approach focused primarily on the financial sector which consists of more than 95% by banks. He confirmed that Angola will participate as observer at the next meeting of the Egmont Group to be held in Johannesburg, and the goal is to quickly become a full member.
The various international speakers who have succeeded have highlighted different aspects and challenges of compliance with an emphasis on teaching approach.
EFFA' President closed the session by stating that the holding of this first Compliance Conference, considered by many observers as “sensitive” and the large audience encountered, clearly demonstrate that Angola of today can approach openly such a subject and that other initiatives on the subject are welcome. Daniel RIBANT also announced that EFFA will organize from 19 to 26 September a medical mission conducted by two eminent Belgian Professors and entirely dedicated to the public health sector in Angola.
